There is an old adage in golf that says "drive for show, putt for dough". It is little wonder this is so often said when you realise that half your score in golf can be attributed to putting. The next time you are out on the golf course, count how many putts you take and you may be surprised just how many it is.
So why do so many of us do so little to improve our putting in what is such a fundamental part of the game?
Putt, Putters, Putting
Two of the best shots I ever played on a golf course were on a long par 5. It was the 9th hole. The sun was shining and the round started well. The drive was magnificent, if I say so myself. We’ve all had them; those moments of absolute wonder when the ball flies off the tee, straight down the fairway. The ball was sitting up nicely and the second stroke came off the sweet spot of a 5 iron, finding the green in two. I then five-putted. I’ve had nightmares on greens before and since but I don’t really remember those putting strokes; not the way I remember that drive and that 5 iron.
Unless we force ourselves, we just don’t think about putting.
Practice Putting
The simple suggestion is to take a lesson on putting but, let’s be honest, no-one is going to do that. We might pay for expert tuition to correct a faulty swing but we are not likely to part with hard earned cash for somebody to teach us how to hit a ball six feet in a straight line.
But we might take time out on the practice greens and work on the stroke. There are many putting exercises but one of our favourite at Golf Division is “round the clock”. Line up 12 balls in a clock around the hole, spacing the balls at different lengths, and practice putting them in.
The Falcon Stealth - A Brand New Putter
Still struggling? Then change your putter. When it comes right down to it, different putters suit different players.
Here at Golf Division we have a great range of putters for sale. One of our flagship models is the deluxe Falcon Putter. Nicknamed ‘The Stealth’ due to its sleek futuristic appearance, it could be the answer to your putting woes. The Falcon Stealth golf putter has been designed this way to help eliminate stray shots and get you on your way to cutting your score. Often overlooked by golfers is the alignment system on the putter itself. This is charm of the Falcon Stealth putter and its purposeful design helps any improving golfer line up the putt. The club is face balanced to reduce head twist on stroke impact. With a double bend shaft and a soft-feel grip, the Stealth will steady the nerve of every golfer.
At Golf Division the deluxe Falcon Stealth Putter is surprisingly affordable and comes with its own neoprene headcover.
A Range of Putters
But as we say, different putters suit different players. One of our odder friends uses a double-headed putter. Anything over 6 feet is putted right-handed but shorter putts are played left-handed. It works for him.
Check out the putters on the Golf Division website to get an idea of styles, all at remarkably good prices. Just don’t forget to have a look at the Falcon Stealth, and let us know how you get on.
